The direction on clapping is dignified spontaneous clapping. Not everyone needs to clap. Some people maybe still hurt by what that person did, would you clap if someone defrauded you and they were reinstated? No.

Signing petitions in other countries or writing to other countries inquires.
by John Davis ini am seeing this petition and call for people to write to the iicsa so that they will investigate watchtower.
i think that this part is good if the person who signs the petition or writes the letter is a citizen or a resident of that country.
i have a problem when people who are citizens or residents of other countries do this when they write into an inquiry like the arc or sign petitions.

I have a problem when people who are citizens or residents of other countries do this when they write into an inquiry like the ARC or sign petitions. The government that is looking into this answers to their citizens, not to other people around the world, and they should only listen to their own citizens. I had just the same issue when Watchtower had JWs from around the world write into Russian Government Officials during their campaign, each country needs to only listen to their citizens and people should not attempt to influence other countries governments.

Kingdom Halls are private property, the owners of that property can restrict your entry and actions within that property. If they wish they can charge you with trespassing.

Sparrowdown:
From the Austrailian Royal Commission own website, for a true and accurate copy of the letter.
It is entitled Letter from Watchtower Australia to All Bodies of Elders regarding Protecting Minors From Abuse
ID: WAT.0024.001.0001
The releveant parts:
18. Direction from the Service Department to the elders will include restrictions imposed on an individual’s activities within the congregation, on his participation in the field ministry, and on his interaction with minors. The elders will be directed to caution the individual never to be alone with a minor, not to cultivate friendships with minors, not to display affection for minors, and so forth. In some cases, the Service Department may specifically direct elders to inform parents of minors within the congregation of the need to monitor their children’s interaction with an individual. If the body of elders has questions about a past case, two elders should be assigned to call the Service Department for direction. The coordinator of the body of elders should ensure that newly appointed elders and elders who move into the congregation are made aware of the Service Department’s direction regarding such individuals.

I am sorry to tell people but of the last 4 cases that have dealt with Watchtower that has finally had a resolution in the US 3 have gone for Watchtower, only the Fessler case went against Watchtower. And really the US where there is no limit on damages caused by this will Watchtower have to pay any substantial money. Even in Australia it probably won't be as big as many people on here think. First, it is going to be a question of if the Australian parliament will even take the ARC recommendation and start a pool for survivors to draw from and then it is up the parliament to decide what kind of a time limit there will be on filing a claim and who is eligible to file a claim. It is not going to be the thing that breaks Watchtower, it is going to hobble them but it won't break them.

Actually, under the new policy that came out in August of last year, while there won't be a public announcement following approval by the Branch's service department, the elders will privately communicate with parents of minor children to inform them that there is a person who has been accused or convicted of child molestation. If it is only an accusation or if someone has been acquitted of child abuse they actually have to be very careful because they could be sued over slander.

Facebook shuts ex j-dub site for "hate speech"
by GoneAwol insorry if this has been posted, havnt had much time to look..

Simon, I appreciate you expressing your own experiences with these issues. You are right it is easy for hate speech to creep up even if that is not the intention of the site or the moderator. When emotions get heated common sense doesn't always stay with the person and they will say inappropriate stuff and responses can lead to even more inappropriate talk. Unless you have a moderator who that is their full-time job it is not possible to keep up with all of the moderation that a popular site or group needs to keep it compliant with the site's code of conduct.
When information is taken down due to a copyright infringement that is a legitimate issue that anyone can bring up. Copyright law is extremely complicated and even the idea of fair use is not as simple as some people think it is. Putting up a fair use banner in the front of a YouTube video doesn't negate some people's breaking of the law.

There was even a case of the famous Vietnam War picture of a little girl running because the village was hit by napalm and her clothes burned off. An anti-war group or something had posted that picture to show the horrors of war, but Facebook considered it a child pornography and took down the picture and warned the group about their conduct. The picture has been in textbooks for years but Facebook algorithms and moderators still responded in that way.

JWs or Watchtower may have nothing to do with this actually. Facebook had a lot of bad press earlier this year with suicides being filmed on Facebook Live and broadcasted. Facebook then decided in May to hire an additional 3000 reviewers and up their algorithms to proactively take down things that break their code of conduct. It is also noteworthy to remember Facebook is not a government and cannot be forced to keep any speech that it deems offensive up. It is a private company that can choose what they allow and who they allow to speak. Just like this site or JWSurvey any other site that allows for comments, they owner of the site can choose at a moment's notice to take down anything they don't like and there is no recourse.
